Imphal, April 28 2017:
Thadou Students' Association, GHQs has appreciated the Core Committee for organising a mass rally cum public meeting against the Phaknung gang rape and urged the authority concerned to expedite the case.
"TSA strongly disagree with the statement of certain groups which allegedly tried to blame the victims rather than the perpetrators.
Moral policing will not help improve women safety," the student body said in a statement.
The State Government should not undermine the sentiments of the general public and should investigate the authenticity of the claim that the rapists are juvenile by conducting an ossification test and verifying original educational certificates from class VIII through class X or the highest qualification of the rapists.
This is necessary on the light of possibility of fake birth certificates unless actually issued at the time of birth or other documents obtained just to get away with the system, TSA said.
It also urged the State Government especially the Child Welfare Committee and State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to take up necessary rehabilitation and compensate the victims as early as possible.
On the other hand, United Christian Women Manipur (UCWM) has also strongly condemned the gang rape incident.
It urged the State Government to investigate the case and punish the rapists as per the law of the land.
