Imphal, June 20 2013:
Indigenous Kuki People's Forum (IKPF) has said social activist Lien Gangte has been adopted as 'consensus candidate' for Outer Manipur Constituency to stand in the upcoming Parliament elections.
Lien is the only person who can treat the Kuki, Meitei and Naga equally in the state and hence he has been chosen as the perfect and consensus candidate to contest the forthcoming elections to the Parliament, IKPF president Rev Rengthang Chothe said while addressing the media at the Press Club here on Thursday.
Talking on the need of transformation of politics, religion and socio-economy of the society, Chothe called for picking a right candidate who possessed the indisputable quality to become a Member of Parliament (MP) having knowledge of social reform.
He further said cadres of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF), the twin umbrella groups of Kuki militant outfits, should not be kept in the designated camps for long because they would someday have to look after their families.
Chothe cautioned that these militants, belonging to the KNO and UPF, now under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) involving both the state and Central Governments, might split and indulge in extortion if the peace process is delayed.
"Peace can be restored in the hill through political dialogue with these militant outfits and before that the Government should provide jobs and pension to these cadres," he suggested.
