Imphal, June 20 2013:
A father-son duo, who reportedly questioned incongruous traffic norms inside Manipur university campus, have allegedly been assaulted by security personnel stationed at the varsity's main gate.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, assault victim Irom Sohodev Mangang s/o I Kula of Yourabung Mamang Leikai accompanied by his son Sandeep (19) went to MU on June 19 to collect MA 1st Semester admission form for his daughter Sushma.
On reaching the MU main gate IRB and Home Guard personnel deployed there advised Sohodev and Sandeep to register their names and other details in the entry register along with surrendering identity card of one.
As they were told that vehicles are not allowed inside the campus the Maruti car they came on was parked on the opposite side of the main gate and walked on foot till the administration Block, said the father adding that they turned back towards the gate as the admission form was not issued yesterday contrary to information published in newspapers that form issuance would start from June 19 .
On the way back to their car they came across passenger carriers like Tata Magic and Autorickshaw plying inside the campus compelling Sohodev to ask security personnel manning at the main gate why traffic regulation norms are not uniform for everybody.
Instead of clarification, if any, the IRB men canned Sohodev with his 19-year old son also getting similar ill-treatment from the Home Guard personnel, said the father who showed bruised marks on his back to news persons to illustrate severity of the thrashing.
Strongly condemning whimsical conduct of the MU security personnel and insisting that the incident as well as incompatible traffic norms merits clarification by the varsity authorities, the victim father desired that students' bodies too initiate appropriate measures so that such incidents do not recur in the future.
The incident has been reported to Kakwa police station, said Sohodev and informed that issuance of admission form also commenced today.
