Committee formed to scan books on state

Imphal, September 15 2022:
In order to ensure that books on history, culture, tradition and geography of Manipur are published with accurate information, the state government has constituted a 15-member Committee with the education minister as chairperson and the director of university & higher education as member secretary to accord approval for publication of books on these topics concerning the state.
Serving as well as retired faculty members of Manipur University, DM University and colleges in Imphal West, Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts are the members of the Committee.
In an order issued Thursday, joint secretary (Hr & Tech Edn) Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam stated that it has come to the knowledge of the government that some books published on the said topics contain materials which may either distort facts or disturb the peaceful co-existence amongst the various communities in state or both.
Therefore, any person/group desirous of publish ing of books on the history, culture, tradition and geography of the state may submit an application to the university & higher education director along with a copy of the manuscript of the book, for placing the same before the Committee for its approval, it said.
The order cautioned that publication of any book in violation of the order will be liable to be punished under the relevant law.
