Imphal, February 27 2020:
Opposition MLA K Ranjit today sought attention of the Chief Minister as well as the Health Minister to station doctors in place of male health workers at Jiribam check-gate for screening people for COVID-19.Speaking during zero hour of today's Assembly session, Ranjit appreciated the stringent measures taken up by the State Government and the Health Department to prevent outbreak of COVID-19 in the State.
However, in the absence of any doctor, two male health workers have been screening people for COVID-19 at Jiribam check-gate.
Earlier doctors used to come to the check-gate and screened people for COVID-19.However as the doctors do not come to the check-gate these days, the male health workers have taken over the responsibility of screening people, Ranjit told the House.
Amidst the growing fear for COVID-19 in different countries across the planet, screening people by male health workers at the surface entry point of Jiribam is not assuring enough, Ranjit said.
He then urged the Chief Minister and the Health and Family Welfare Minister to replace the male health workers with doctors.
