Imphal, October 07 2011:
Seven students including minors sustained injuries when members of the Islamic religious group Anjuman-Islahis-Ummat, Kyamgei attacked Trio Standard English School at Keirao Litan Makhong today.
Students and teachers of the school were celebrating Teachers' Day when some seven/eight members of the Anjuman-Islahis-Ummat armed with clubs and batons attacked them suddenly at about 3 pm on the charge of staging entertainment programmes.
Members of the religious group also assaulted some people whom they encountered at the gate of the school before asking all those present in the Teachers' Day programme not to leave the school campus.
Then they started beating up students causing injuries to seven students including minors.
According to Principal of the school P Romen, members of the Anjuman-Islahis-Ummat asked the school authority not to call guest/professional artistes but they did not give any prior warning against organising musical events.
As such, while the students were preparing to start musical programmes, Anjuman-Islahis-Ummat members attacked the school all of a sudden.
"Neither did we call any guest artistes nor did we have any knowledge about the musical programme planned by students.
If we had any idea about the musical programme, we would have stopped it", Romen said.
Founder of the school Abdul Razaq said that the attack on the students was an act of barbarism.
The event held at the school was not against Islamic laws.
Saying that the assailants were led by Mouluvi Piktru (27) of Kyamgei Awang Leikai, Mouluvi Tajuddin (40) of the same locality, Md Buralludin (30) of Urup Awang Leikai, Md Riyajudin (24) and Md Isaac, Abdul Razaq said that he would file a complaint at Irilbung police station in connection with the unwarranted attack.
