Fish price fixed for Ningol Chakkouba

The price of fish which are to be sold at the Fish Fair to be held at Hafta Kangjeibung on October 18, organized by the Directorate of Fisheries, GoM, on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba has been fixed.
There has been a slight change in the price of fish this year as compared with the previous years.
The price of fish has gone up a bit as compared with last year's price.
There are also apprehensions as to whether fish farmers will be coming out and participate in the Fish Fair where the price of fish will be not upto the expected level of the fish farmers.
Moreover the price of local fish in the market has also gone up as the supply of fish from other states has gone down because of the ongoing economic blockade.
K Sarat kumar, Director, Fisheries, said that the department is targeting to produce around 60,000 kg of fish in the Fish Fair cum Fish Crop Competition.
Around 50 to 60 fish farmers will be participating in the fair where around 60 stalls will be opened.
He further said that, in the Fair, Rou and Mirgal will be sold at Rs160/kg, Grass carp at Rs 140/kg, Common carp at Rs 130/kg, Silver carp at Rs 100/kg, Ngaton at Rs 400/kg, Pengba at Rs 500/kg, Khaging at
Rs 700/kg.Last year Rou and Mirgal was sold at Rs 120/kg, Common carp at Rs 120/kg, Silver carp at Rs 90/kg, Ngaton at Rs 350/kg, Pengba at Rs 400/kg and Khajing at Rs 600/kg.The prizes for the highest fish producing farmer have also been increased.
Cash prize of Rs 50,000/-, 40,000/- and 30,000/- will be awarded to the first, second and third position holders.
Consolation prizes of Rs 5000/- each will be given to 250 selected fish farmers.
Cash prize of Rs 15,000/- will also be awarded to the highest producer indigenous fish.
Apart from this, District Fish Officer one each from the hills and plains who produces the highest amount of fish in their respective district will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- each.
Considering the impact of economic blockade on the amount of fish available in the state, Fisher y Department has appealed to the fish farmers to bring out higher quantity of fish, preferably 20% more than the previous years in the mela.
