Imphal, July 05 2011:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has lamented that the historic and sacred Kekrupat, where the mortal remains of the 18 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur have been laid to rest, has become a no man's land today despite deployment of four Home Guard personnel by the Government to look after the complex.
In a statement, information and public relations secretary of UCM said that there has been no let in the efforts being made by UCM to develop Kekrupat into a sacred site for veneration.
After the Government of Manipur took over the land, Kangla Fort Board deployed four Home Guard personnel with one Md Amjad Ali as the commander to look after the complex.
However, as the four Home Guard personnel have not performed their duties properly, Kekrupat has today become a waste dumping ground for the people of different communities settling around the area.
How long should one remain quiet watching dumping of waste materials, washing of cloths and other eye-sore activities inside Kekrupat complex, UCM questioned.
In addition to this, fishing activities being allowed inside the pond which is supposed to be kept clean like the mirror of the complex should be stopped at once, UCM demanded.
The statement further informed that when a team of UCM officials visited the complex at around 11.30 am today, it was found that many men and women were fishing inside the pond without any restriction.
It is also unfortunate iron rods kept inside the complex for construction of Integrity Pillar have been stolen despite the deployment of Home Guards.
The Government of Manipur should pay serious attention to such lapses and the Chief Minister who is also the chairman of Kangla Fort Board and in-charge of Home Department should initiating necessary disciplinary action against the four inefficient Home Guard personnel.
All four of them should also be transferred and posted another 10 personnel to replace them.
For the time being, the barrack of the Home Guard personnel should also be shifted to the IRB barrack, UCM demanded.
