Employees threaten to launch ceasework strike

More than 60,000 state government employees under the banner of Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organization (AMGEO) have threatened the government that it will re-activate its suspended cease work strike from July 18 if the government fail to fully execute the demands of the JAC as per the MoUs signed last year between the government and their representatives.
"We've taken a decision in this regard recently", Ch Chandramani,Secretary general of the JAC speaking to media persons here said.
"Employees, workers and pensions will launch the cease work strike unless the state government execute our demands on or before July 17" .
The state employees have been demanding adoption of "accepted recommendations of the 6th central pay commission along with all its benefits" in toto to the state government employees, workers and pensioners and payment of arrears of pay and allowances and pension for 51 months with effect from January 1, 2006 .
The other demands include the merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay/pension be effected from April 1,2004 at par central government and due arrears be paid for 44 months with effect from April 1,2004 onwards, regularisation of Ad-hoc,work charged and contractual employees and conversion of casual/muster roll workers to work charged workers, restoration of die-in-harness schemes,revision of minimum wages,duty allowances,messing allowances,disturbed area allowances and lifting of ban on direct recruitments etc.
The Manipur State Pensioners' Union president H Yaima participating in the interaction highlighted the plight of around 34,000 pensioners in the state while L Purujit,Secretary General of the Manipur Secretariat Staffs association announced that they're ready to extend necessary possible help and support to the JAC's forthcoming strike.Pensioners' leader also lamented that the indifferent attitude of the state government while awarding the arrears to its employees and pensioners.
Meanwhile Council of Teachers Association's representative said that they will take further course of action once a meeting of the teachers is held.He however stated that the teachers body will support the other form of agitation of the employees.
It may be mentioned here that the state's machinaries were once paralysed severely after its employees went on cease work strike in the recent past.
