Red Woods worth crores seized

Imphal, September 03 2012:
A Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) team of Imphal West district police today seized red woods, worth Rs 3 crores in the black market, from the illegal possession of a person at Samurou Awang Leikai under Wangoi PS.
The SIU team led by Inspector K Ranjit under the supervision of Imphal West district SP, Konsam Jayanta, seized the red woods during a raid conducted this morning.
The team also picked up a transporter during the raid.
The red woods, 552 logs, were found piled up within the premises of one Salam Nando (32) of Samurou Awang Leikai.
The owner of the red woods is said to be one Arif Khan of Madras.

Red woods are said to be sold at Rs 1000-2000 per kilogram in black market, according to Inspector Ranjit, who lead the SIU team.
At the same time, the SIU team also arrested a person involved in the transportation of the red woods, identified as Anand Prasad (32), a resident of UP's Balliya district, who is presently stay putting at a rented house of Manikchand Basraj at Mantripukhri.
