Imphal, November 02 2014:
Presence of too many toll tax collection points along Wabagai-Samurou road has allegedly rendered passenger service impossible.
Appealing to the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest, Huidrom Mangi, president of Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar Drivers cum Owners' Union warned that passenger service of all kinds along the route would be ceased if no positive response comes forth by Nov 7 .
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, Huidrom Mangi pointed out there are as many as four toll tax collection booths along the 22-km stretch of road from Mayang Imphal to Wahengbam Leikai.
Passenger service has become infeasible due to the presence of toll tax booth at an interval of every 2 kilometre along the road.
Mangi wanted to know if random setting up of a toll tax booth is legally acceptable.
Or whether the same is also in practice in other States.
Asking if there is legal sanction to set up such toll tax booths at all municipality areas, Mangi urged the authority concerned to abolish unnecessary toll tax collection points.
Despite repeated appeals to the authority concerned to look into the matter regarding the numerous toll tax booths along the Wabagai-Samurou route, nothing positive has been taken up so far, Mangi rued.
Toll tax along the route is being collected at Mayang Imphal, Wangoi, Samurou and Heirangoithong.
