The Keirao GP Job Card Holders Association has served a legal notice to Keirao AC MLA Karam Thamarjit and two other respondents for allegedly siphoning off Rs 25 lakhs meant for the construction of roads in Keirao area under MGNREGS.
The notice, served yesterday by Advocate N Shantibala on behalf of four petitioners said that they would be compelled to take up appropriate legal action against the respondents if the said amount is not distributed to job card holders within a month.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, secretary of the association, Kangabam Naoton said that respondents of the notice are MLA Karam Thamarjit, former Pradhan of Keirao Gram Panchayat Ashem Hemanta and former Block Development Officer Th Priyochandra while the petitioners are association president Ayekpam Chaoni, association secretary Kangabam Naoton, Salam Juge and Asem Ibohal.
Naoton alleged that the MLA in collusion with other respondents had taken out this amount meant for MGNREGS works of June and July 2012 using forged signature of job card holders.
The amount included wages for job card holders and cost of material components of different MGNREGS works, he added.
Naoton said that on October 17 last, the job card holders requested the MLA to clear their wages before Ningol Chakkouba festival.
However, the MLA has failed to give any positive response till date prompting them to take legal advice regarding the matter.
He also said that if the said amount is not handed over to job card holders within a month, villagers who are residing at the northern side of Iril river would not only socially boycott the MLA but also file a criminal case of forgery and cheating against him.
