Imphal, November 02 2014:
PFA has expressed shock over the reported killing of Amur falcon for meat at Tamenglong.
Forest Department and police should be more active but the real result can only be brought by the people of Tamenglong.
Civil and youth organisations of Tamenglong are appealed to take the initiative with the pride that their district hosts the world famous falcon species, a statement issued by PFA said.
Saying that falcons feed on insects like termites, the PFA said if 10 % of the falcons are killed in India every year, it means that up to 2.5 million more termites or other insects survive.
The impact thereof means bigger quantities and more expensive and harmful pesticides, which would ultimately have an impact on agriculture and human health of Tamenglong.
New measures have been instituted in Nagaland to prevent the mass slaughter and to protect the specific falcon.
