Imphal, July 26:
About a 200 strong protesting students from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur staged a joint rally in Delhi today urging the Centre to immediately withdraw the NSCN (IM) ceasefire extension.
The rally was organized by the All Assam Students Union, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union and All Manipur Students Union.
A joint memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister in support of the demand, a report reaching here said.
The students shouted slogans like, �We want peace in the NE,� �Preserve territories of NE�, �Long live NE�, �Long live Manipur, Long live Assam, Long live Arunachal� etc.
the student leaders said they want the Naga problem solved and the peace process to continue, but they are against extension of the ceasefire beyond Nagaland.
In the memorandum the student bodies expressed their desire to have peaceful co-existence and development in the NE.
it said the agreement does not have the constitutional validity and is an undemocratic attempt to break the spirit of national integration in the NE.
it also termed the extension of the truce as a step towards encroachment of the borders of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Demanding that the constitutionally conferred geographical boundaries and territorial integrity of these three States be maintained intact the memorandum said the people of these three States would not tolerate any move to disintegrate the States.
It may be recalled that NESO in its recent meetings at Shillong and Gauhati resolved to protect and preserve the territorial integrity of the State.
