Kohima, July 12:
Three Naga organizations have taken strong exception to the Centres reported decision to review the Centre-NSCN (IM) ceasefire in view of strong protests in neighboring States against enlargement of truce coverage zone.
Naga Council, Dimapur Naga Students Union and Dimapur GBS (Gaonburha) Union opined the unilateral decision to review the Bangkok agreement between the Centre-NSCN (IM) was against the wishes and aspirations of the entire Naga people.
In a joint meeting held at Dimapur yesterday, they appealed to all factions of undergrounds and all sections of Nagas to unite and strongly express their view on the issue.
Naga Council president Horangshe Sangtam, in a statement, appealed to Meitei brothers in Imphal valley to respect the rights of the Nagas and help resolving the vexed Naga political problem in right perspectives.
Tangkhul Naga organizations and human rights bodies based in Manipur in a joint memorandum to Prime Minister have resented the decision by the Centre to review the expansion of the ceasefire beyond Nagaland.
The joint memorandum made available here today urged Vajpayee not to succumb to pressures mounted by others without taking into consideration the views and opinions of Nagas on the issue.
How can the Government of India succumb to pressure from non-Naga groups, which have no locus standi in the ongoing Naga peace process? It asked.
If the situation aggravated in the event of any alteration to the ceasefire agreement, the Centre would be solely held responsible, it warned.
Our staff reporter adds The Poumai Naga Union, Purul has said that the Centres decision to review the ceasefire agreement is a wrong signal and undesirable.
It exposed the insincerity of the Government of the worlds largest democratic country, the union said in a press release today.
The union appealed to the Meitei people in the valley to stop anti-ceasefire campaign and also to understand the legitimate rights of the Nagas.
Stating that British colonial rule forced us to live together under one administrative roof against their wishes the union said Nagas have respect for Meiteis fight for sovereignty.
