AR GUNS DOWN SUSPECTED MILITANT

Imphal, July 12:
Police today recovered a bomb fitted to a Tata placed inside the compound of the residence of MLA K Govindas at Ningthoukhong after yesterday�s attack by unidentified persons at his residence.
The attackers had also partially burnt the front tyres of the vehicle, said police sources.
The bomb was removed by a team of Bishnupur police.
Meanwhile a suspected underground member was shot dead by 8 Bn Assam Rifles troops today at Langathel Chingon located about 6 kms northwest of Kakching police station in Thoubal district.
The Assam Rifles personnel are stationed at Khongjom.
Assam Rifles press spokesman said on receipt of specific information that members of PULF and INF were present at Wangjing area, the security personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area and conduct search operations.
As one of the columns approached the hideout of the militants, two cadres fled towards the hill side.
AR personnel gave chase and as they approached the hills the militant opened fire towards the security personnel.
AR retaliated and killed one of them on the spot.
The other managed to escape.
The body which is yet to be identified has been brought to RIMS morgue.
Major portion of the slain militant�s head was blown away by the gun shots.
Police said the victim may be one Md Ithem of Yairipok Phouden.
In yet another incident militant attacked a BSF post at Moirang Khunou at 9.30 pm today.
