Imphal, July 12:
Hundreds of students drawn from 11 schools of Imphal East today staged a rally to protect the age old territorial boundary of Manipur.
Floral tributes were also paid to fifteen martyrs who laid down their lives in the movement to safeguard the territorial integrity at Kekrupat.
The rally started from Kongba at 10 am and was soon joined by students of other schools on the way.
The rally proceeded through Wangkhei, New Checkon and congregated near Minuthong.
The rally was stalled for some time as police said that not more than two students from each school would be allowed inside the cremation sites at Kekrupat.
Later the police relented and ten students from each school with their teachers were allowed to proceed and pay floral tributes at the site.
After the tributes were paid, the rally then made its way back through Khurai Tellipati, Ayangpali and to their respective schools.
Meanwhile around 1000 people took out a rally at Moirang in Bishnupur district demanding immediate withdrawal of the ceasefire extension from Manipur.
Students of Moirang Multi Purpose Higher Secondary School and people from the area took part in the rally.
The rally which started at about 1 pm from the school was by and large peaceful.
The rallies were held as part of the agitation announced by several voluntary organizations against the decision of the Centre to extend the NSCN (IM) ceasefire to Manipur.
