Imphal, October 06 2012:
IED components reportedly hidden by a KYKL cadre who was slain in an encounter with Imphal West commandos have been recovered from a drain at Sagolband Khamnam Leirak.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Imphal West SP Konsam Jayenta said that the IED components were discovered during a search operation following the shoot-out last night.
The IED components were found packed inside a polythene bag which was hidden under the drain.
Altogether 12 RDX cakes weighing around 500 gm each, 12 electronic circuit boards (radio signal receivers), three remote-control handsets, 15 electronic detonators with wires and eight dry cells were found inside the polythene bag.
The RDX cakes were wrapped by newspapers which were printed in letters which looked like Burmese.
The IED can be assembled in such a way that four bombs can be triggered successively by a single remote-control handset within fractions of a second, and the effective range of a remote-control devise is 200 metres, said SP Jayenta quoting explosive experts.

It has been learnt that the IED components were brought from across the international border by KYKL's hardcore cadre Sapam Ranjan (18) of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak who was slain in an encounter with Imphal West commandos at Takyel Khongbal on October 1 night.
The IED components were brought to Imphal to target security forces after assembling them as powerful bombs.
However, with the discovery of the IED components, large scale casualty and a possible chaotic situation have been averted with the help of the Lamphel SDPO who is the IO of the particular case and Imphal West commandos.
The SP further appealed to the public to inform police control room or the nearest police station if they come across any suspicious objects or abandoned vehicles.
