The same notion is still prevalent in rural and hill areas of Manipur.
In these areas, people are little aware about mental illness and psychiatric problems.
There were many cases when people suffering from such mental problems committed suicide.
But today, people are aware that all psychiatric problems can be treated like other diseases, he noted.
IPS president Dr Roy Abraham Kallivayalil released a souvenir in connection with the annual conference.
Moreover, four doctors of Psychiatry were felicitated by presenting cash awards, mementos and certificates.
