Imphal, July 06 2011:
Setting into motion its political agenda and priorities, the latest entrant in the political field of Manipur, the executive body of the Manipur Democratic People's Front held a meeting on July 1 and discussed in detail the issues raised by journalists during the press conference held on June 17 at the Manipur Press Club.
Detailing the outcomes of the discussion session, the new party in a statement said that the MDPF was formed in view of the limited number of regional parties in the State and to provide as much options as possible to the voters to choose a suitable political party.
The need to float the new party was also felt since the existing National as well as regional political parties in Manipur have failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people despite taking part in elections after elections.
MDPF will step in to bear the burden of the people and go the extra mile to make a new Manipur which will be to the satisfaction of the people in both the hills and valley.
Touching on the limited time the party has to prepare for the next election, the statement said that 7 months is enough time for it to mobilise the people, given the fact that its leaders and members are committed and sincere in their approach towards the work at hand.
The next election is likely to be held in February next year.
Anyone who shares the views of the party are welcome, said the statement and added that the party has registered with the ECI.
The formation of the party is an opportunity for the people to come forward and participate in the process to make Manipur a better place, said the statement.
On the question of any social work engaged in by its leaders and members earlier, the statement said that the desire of the people is peace, development, self sufficiency, non-corrupt and a poverty free Manipur.
Such a goal can be achieved by the people by choosing the right political party, said MDPF and added that the aspirations of the people cannot be achieved by individual social work or philanthropy.
What is needed is for the people to come forward and make full use of the means at hand to elect the right party.
Asserting that the MDPF will go it alone in the next election, the statement said that it has decided not to tie up with others as they have all been tested and have failed to deliver the goods.
Moreover the MDPF is confident that its candidates will do well as the election.
Any member from other political parties, who are willing to work sincerely and believes in the ideologies of the MDPF are welcome to join, added the statement.
The new political party also cited the case of the Telugu Desam which registered with the ECI only a few months ahead of the election but got voted to power with NTR as its leader.
Stating that the MDPF is purely a regional political party, the statement said that it will not have any high command beyond the political boundary of Manipur and cited the case of other National parties which are not at liberty to work as they desire.
Though the MDPF is yet to ink its election manifesto, it nevertheless believes and will work for peace, progress, self sufficiency, communal harmony and an efficient and clean Government.
