Imphal, November 04 2013:
Flatly rejecting the report that two cows died after consuming cauliflower stalks cultivated at Khoijuman, Oinam AC MLA Dr I Ibohalbi claimed he himself had eaten cauliflowers brought from Khoijuman and did not face any health problem.
Speaking to media persons at his Babupara quarters today, Ibohalbi said that experts of Veterinary Department and Central Agriculture University have been investigating the report that two cows died after consuming cauliflower stalks.
Although the cattle owner claimed that the two cows died of consuming cauliflower stalks bought from Khoijuman, no cauliflower was sold to the cattle owner.
It was the cattle owner who fed cauliflower leaves and stalks to the cows after picking them up from a garbage pit, the MLA contended.
"I've consumed cauliflowers and other vegetables bought from Khoijuman and I don't even feel itch on my throat", Ibohalbi asserted.
Calling upon all concerned not politicise consumer goods/vegetables, the MLA maintained people need not fear consuming vegetables brought from Khoijuman.
Global Science Club, Khoijuman vice-president Gopal Leitanthem said that following the reports of cauliflower induced bovine death, farmers have been facing difficulties in marketing vegetables cultivated with hard labour.
With consumers reluctant to buy vegetables cultivated in Khoijuman, the farmers have been losing Rs two lakh on daily basis, Gopal Leitanthem said.
Due process would be initiated to exact befitting compensation for the money loss because of the false report, he asserted.
