Imphal, July 03 2009:
"People of Manipur still have the courage and the conviction to face any challenge and threat posed to the territorial integrity of the State," titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has stated.
Speaking as chief guest of the 9th foundation day of United Committee Manipur (UCM) held at Kangla Hall today, the titular king observed that Manipur is today passing through a very critical phase where both the State and non-State actors have been competing for a killing spree while the Govt has remained deaf to the cries of the people.
With the number of people falling down to the bullets of the State and non-State actors growing day after day, who would remain to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur is becoming a grave concern.
But the people of Manipur have not yet lost their courage and conviction to thwart any challenge to the territorial integrity of the State, Leishemba Sanajaoba said, while giving a clarion call to stop killing without trial.
UCM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar presided over the foundation day function which was also attended by president of UPF YK Dhiren, president of IPSA Ch Shankar, president of NIPCO Y Nabachandra, president of FRIENDS Sapamcha Jadumani, president of AMKIL Shakhi Leima, president of CHITUWA P Momon and president of Kangleichal E Chanu Bhanu as guests of honour.
In his address, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar charged the Government with supporting the armed insurgency movement in the State and said that it should not be surprising when the surviving wife or children of a man killed in fake encounter of the security forces wanted to take up arms.
The attitude of the Government in looking upon the civil societies which are working for the welfare of the people at the grassroots level as UGs is unfortunate, he said.
Calling upon the people for a Great Historical Mission to jolt the Government from its slumber, Dilipkumar said it is no time for the people to institute JACs here and there to fight for the cause of justice over killing of a person or raping of a woman but for a joint action.
Y Nabachandra observed that UCM needs to remain powerful in view of the double standard nature of the Government of India.
YK Dhiren exhorted the people to stand up as one against the indifferent attitude of the Government to the daily incident of violence and killing taking place in the State.
