Jiribam, November 29 2015:
Future of Class XI and XII students of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School and Borobekra Government Higher Secondary School are still uncertain as the cease work strike launched by Jiribam contract lecturers since November 9 last is still on.
It may be mentioned that Jiribam Higher Secondary School Students' Union had also staged sit-in protests for two days earlier demanding resumption of classes and announced to shut down the schools since November 16 last.
Meanwhile, the union on Saturday directed the schools to open from November 30 (Monday) to let the students fill-up their forms for COSEM and BOSEM examinations.
Student bodies in Jiribam like AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA had also earlier appealed the teachers to suspend their cease work strike and urged the State Government to bring an amicable solution.
However, All Jiribam Contract Lecturers Association (AJICLA) has vowed to continue the strike until their demands are met.
Sources said that futures of Jiribam students are uncertain as the Government is not likely to hold any talk with the agitators at the moment.
Few sections of people have also expressed dismay with the silence maintained by the Government on the issue.
It may be mentioned that AJICLA, an apex body of contract lecturers of Jiribam, had launched the cease work strike since November 9 last after the Government and the authorities turned a blind eye to their issues.
AJICLA demanded job security or regularization for the contract lecturers for those who had served for 20 years.
Sources said that number of regular teachers in Jiribam is less compared to other towns and the Secondary Schools are said to be taught only by contract lecturers.
Around five regular lecturers teaches in the Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School while the Borobekra Government Higher Secondary School is totally run by contract lecturers only, added the source.
