Minister Letpao, others reach out to people in distress

Sports minister Letpao Haokip, MLA RK Imo and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) have extended aid to Covid-19 affected people, children's homes and Covid Care Centre in their respective areas on Monday even as various other individuals and organisation continued to reach out to people affected by Covid-19 or reeling in extreme hardships due to the curfew imposed to contain the pandemic.
Minister Letpao Haokip provided one rice bag and Rs 500 each to 31 villages in Dingpi area, Chandel which have been affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister pledged to the villagers that no one will go hungry in his constituency during the period of the pandemic.
On the other-hand, Sagolband MLA RK Imo accompanied by his mother RK Sorojini and family members arranged dinner for the inmates, staff and doctors of Lamboi Khongnangmakhong, RD Wing and Bal Bhavan CCCs on Sunday to commemorate the 27th death anniversary of his father and former chief minister RK Jaichandra.
The dinner was arranged with the support of Cycling for Humanity Team with which RK Imo also distributed edible to Children Home, Tera Bazar; Poirei Nawakon, Koirengei; and Punya Nawa Yaiphakol, Thangmeiband.
It can be mentioned here that late RK Jaichandra was the first Union minister from Manipur and he served in the cabinet of former PM Rajiv Gandhi from 1985-88.From 1988-90, he was the chief minister of the state.
Meanwhile, AMUCO distributed edibles to weaker sections of the society with the help of its member organisations on Sunday and Monday.
In a release, AMUCO assistant general secretary MM Thambou stated the united body of 17 clubs from Imphal East, South Eastern United Clubs' Organisation (SEUCO) under the aegis of AMUCO distributed edible items to 144 widows and poor families in 14 different localities.
On Sunday, SEUCO through its member clubs distributed edibles at Uchekon Khunou, Bamon Kampu, Bashikhong, Keikhu, Khanarok, Langdum and Wangkhem, while on Monday, edibles were distributed at Thiyam Konjin Samalching Leikai, Thiyam Konjil Maning Leikai, Thiyam Konjil Mamang Leikai, Thiyam Konjil Awang Leikai and Thiyam Konjil Warok Leikai, it added.
