Duplicate electors to be verified through house survey, says CEO

Imphal, June 24 2013: A meeting on pre-revision activities for special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with the representatives of all the political parties of the State along with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), DCs and EROs was held at the Secretariat conference hall here today.

After the meeting, O Nabakishore, CEO, informed media persons that the meeting discussed issues related to correction of the errors in the names of electors and their addressses in the photo electoral rolls.

The political parties present in the meeting include representatives of CPI, INC, Siva Sena, MPP, NCP, BSP, RJD and MSCP.

The CEO further informed that the errors in the photo electoral rolls would be corrected following instructions from the Election Commission of India.

Distribution of Photo Voter Slip to voters by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) along with the verification of error list has already begun from June 17 .

The process will be continued till July 16 .

The CEO went on to inform that the CEO office has developed a software to find out the duplicate electors in the State.

As of now, 14908 possible duplicate electors have been identified in the Photo Electoral Rolls-2013.Out of the total duplicate electors, 105 are from Imphal West, 249 from Imphal East, 57 from Bishnupur, 262 from Thoubal, 2953 from Chandel, 792 from Ukhrul, 7212 from Senapati, 1481 from Tamenglong and 1797 from Churachandpur district.

As per the Pre-Revision schedule, activities for rationalization of polling stations at the district level should be completed by July 25, 2013.The main factors to be considered in the rationalization exercise included finding out whether or not the building of the poll station is dilapidated or dangerous, situated outside the polling area, voters have to cross rivers/canals/ravines, etc, to reach the polling station, the CEO explained.

He further informed that the Electoral Photo Identity Card will also be made with a superior quality as it has become an important identity card for individuals of the nation.
