MUTSU asks ATSUM (Emboi) to suspend bandh

Manipur University Tribal Students' Union, or MUTSU has appealed to Emboi Serto-led All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) on Tuesday to postpone its proposed 24-hour hill districts bandh to be started from the midnight of August 21.The appeal by MUTSU comes after Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh gave an assurance to the union on August 17 for bringing a solution to the Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 impasse.
According to a statement jointly signed by MUTSU president LH Seitinthang and general secretary RK Gedion, CM Ibobi has convened a meeting between representatives of the Government and authority of Manipur University on August 22 to expedite the process for implementation of the Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 in the university.
The statement said the union appreciates the gestures of solidarity shown to MUTSU by ATSUM (Emboi) as well as ATSUM (Muan Tombing) and other tribal student organisations over the Reservation in Admission stalemate.
It appealed to all the tribal student bodies to cooperate with the union towards ensuring speedy implementation of the Act from the academic session 2014/15 .
