Imphal, August 19 2014:
On account of the violent con-frontation on Nagaland-Assam border and subsequent indefinite blockade along Dimapur-Guwahati highway at Golaghat, problem of fuel shortage now looms large over Manipur.
In the meantime, taking serious note of the unfolding situation, the Chief Secretary has instructed the DGP to take up necessary security measures so as to ensure uninterrupted transhipment of petroleum products into the State.
People of the State have already started feeling the pinch of fuel shortage after transhipment of fuel oils from Khatkhati to Imphal was suspended since August 15 on account of the indefinite blockade along Dimapur- Guwahati highway.

While long queues of vehicles could be seen in front of some oil pumps, majority of the oil pumps remained shut on Tuesday.
Nonetheless, 50 oil tankers which were stranded at Khatkhati for the past couple of days were escorted towards Imphal by CRPF this afternoon, informed an official source.
At present, IOC's Chingmeirong oil depot has 12 days stock of petrol, 23 days stock for diesel, 36 days stock for kerosene and just two days stock for LPG.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary today asked the DGP to take up necessary security measures for ferrying petroleum products along Imphal-Dimapur with CRPF escorts as well as along Imphal-Jiribam highway without undue interruption.
