A 33-year-old woman who masqueraded as a staff of Medical Department and collected 500 rupees from the public in the name of providing health card was caught red-handed by the Medical Officer-In-charge from Old Lambulane area on January 25 afternoon and handed over to Imphal Police Station.
The arrested woman is identified as Wahengbam ongbi Sophia @ Babina Devi 33 w/o Prakash of Bishnupur ward number 5 at present Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai.
The arrested woman was produced before the media persons on January 26 at SP Imphal West conference hall.
Briefing media persons Haobijam Jogeshchandra SP Imphal West stated that on January 25 at around 8 pm Wangkeimayum Ranakuari (35) Medical Officer-Incharge UPHC Langol Tarung lodged a written complaint to Imphal Police Station stating that on the same day at around noon it was learnt from some health worker of ASHA that one unknown woman is supplying form of health card bearing registration number IMC/10(20)16 to the public of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai and Old Lambulane area.
Accordingly, when she was at Old Lambulane, the locals were inquired and the unknown lady was identified as Wahengbam ongbi Sophia @ Babina Devi 33 w/o Prakash of Bishnupur ward number 5 at present Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai and she was stopped for questioning and verification.
On questioning the woman disclosed that she had printed and supplied the application form of health card to|he public by posing as a staff of Medical Department and collected money from the public at the rate of Rs 500 per form.
On verification it was learnt that she is not a staff of Medical Department.
She was arrested by Imphal Police at around 8.15 pm on the same day.
The SP also said that the arrested woman has been produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West and taken into three days police
remand till January 28 .
