Tengnoupal Bn saves endangered bird

Imphal, January 28 2019:
Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) saved the life of an endangered bird.
The Battalion, in its area of responsibility, found a gravely injured male bird while undertaking an operation.
The bird was provided with first aid wherein the wounds were cleaned and thereafter taken to Battalion Headquarters for better treatment, conveyed a statement of Assam Rifles.
On investigation, the bird was found to be an endangered specie with scientific name of Kalija Pheasant (Male), locally known as Waba.
The bird was fed properly and special treatment was given to ensure early recovery, it added.
The bird, after it regained strength and health, was handed over to Range officer Zoological Garden, Iroisemba Imphal by the team of Tengnoupal Battalion.
The Range officer, while interacting with the team intimated that only a pair of Kalija Pheasant was present at the Zoological garden, unfortunately, the male had died.
The authorities of Zoological garden expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Assam Rifles for saving the life of an endangered specie and also apprised that the male bird will now be helpful in the increasing the number of the particular species.
