Imphal, January 28 2019:
The Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation (HITOWO) has demanded all the associations concerned to let go off the notion that assessing weight of the vehicles plying along National Highway 37 (Imphal- Jiribam) road should be done at the FCI weight bridge at Jiribam.
Speaking to media persons at HITOWO office at Keishampat today, its information and publicity secretary Brojehdro Konthoujam narrated that HITOWO inaugurated a weight bridge at Gularthol, Jiribam, on January 1 in the interest of the transporters and claimed that the establishment of the weight bridge has proved very useful for the drivers/transporters.
He then alleged that Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) and All Manipur Workers Union, complained against the construction of the weight bridge and demanded the weight measurement to be performed only at FCI weight bridge.
Their action is condemnable, he added.
Alleging that TDC and the drivers union are attempting to tarnish the image of HITOWO as well as the Transport Department, he said that the attempt to politicise the National Highways is extremely disappointing.
He then appealed to those concerned to openly discuss the pros and cons of establishing the weight bridge at Jiribam and to come to a mutual understanding at the earliest.
On the other hand, All Manipur Inter-State Bus & Allied Transport Association has expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the weight bridge at Jiribam.
Speaking to media persons at the association's office at North AOC today, its general secretary Mongjam Bimol said that the association welcomes the establishment of the weight bridge at the National Highways, be it by the Government or any private players.
The association will support any step to bring an understanding regarding the current issue revolving around the weight bridge, he added.
