Doctors hailed for treatment of lonely Hiyanglam woman

Imphal, July 24 2021: The Hiyanglam-based Social & Economic Development Organisation (SEDO) has thanked doctors deputed at Covid Care Centre, Kakching for giving proper medical treatment to 87 years old Wahengbam Ningol Sakhi of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai, who has no one to look after her.

According to a statement of SEDO, the organisation along with COVID-19 Task Force Hiyanglam, Zilla Parishad and Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat has been making all possible efforts to defeat COVID-19 since the first wave of the pandemic under the initiative of Hiyanglam MLA Dr Radheshyam Yumnam.

Accordingly, house to house mass testing drive is currently undergoing at different places of Hiyanglam and Wahengbam Ningol Sakhi was found to have contracted Covid-19 during a mass testing conducted at Hiyanglam Awang Leikai on July 14.Sakhi had been living alone for around five/six years as her lone son died in a road accident after her husband died.

After testing positive for COVID-19, she was put under home isolation as per advice of doctors while her necessary items and edibles were provided by SEDO, COVID-19 Task Force Hiyanglam, Zilla Parishad and Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat.

As keeping her in home isolation was found problematic, MO in-charge of Hiyanglam PHC Dr Elangbam Kiran was informed and state health department despatched a team after four days and shifted her to Covid Care Centre, Kakching.

Due to proper care and treatment by doctors of district Covid care centre as well as by doctors and nurses of Hiyanglam, the health condition of Sakhi is improving gradually, the SEDO said in the statement and thanked doctors for giving humane treatment to the old woman.

While claiming that the organisation has been helping the lonely woman since the first wave of the pandemic by providing food and edible items and preparation has been made for the woman to stay safely and comfortably at her home, SEDO also appealed to people to extend help to the unfortunate woman.
