Mirabai hailed for winning Olympic silver medal

Several individuals and organisations including Governor Dr Najma Heptulla have extended heartiest congratulations to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on winning the silver medal in the 49 kg category of weightlifting at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.
Expressing her happiness, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, in her message said, "Mirabai Chanu has made India proud in general and Manipur in particular by this achievement.
This will, indeed act as an inspiration for her colleagues and juniors" .
She also conveyed her best wishes to keep up the good work and earn many more medals in her future career.
YAS minister Letpao Haokip, works minister Thon-gam Biswajit Singh; BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi; BJP Manipur Pradesh State Council member Kh Ibomcha; Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha; Congress leaders Bhakta Charan Das, K Meghachandra, Kh Ratan and others, CPI Manipur State Council, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union, Villages Community Progressive Committee (VCPC) and Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) also conveyed congratulations to Mirabai on their stupendous performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, AIMS Manipur has appealed to the Governor to honour weightlifter S Mirabai Chanu by appointing her as a police officer of a rank not lower than SP, to provide a residence in Imphal area where she can have better accessibility and to establish a weightlifting Institute under her guidance to produce more players in future.
CPI (M) Manipur State Committee state secretary Kshtrimayum Shanta and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation chairman S Achouba have also congratulated S Mirabai Chanu on winning a silver medal in weightlifting at Tokyo Olympics.
Agriculture minister O Lukhoi and State Planning Board chairman and Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar have also congratulated S Mirabai Chanu for her podium finish performance at Tokyo Olympics.
