World Music Day celebrated

Prominent bands and musicians from different parts of North East India region doffed their hats to art, to mark the 'World Music Day' celebration at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.
Shillong, popularly known as the erstwhile 'Rock Capital' of the North East, on Friday celebrated World Music Day, an event organized by the Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
Popular rock bands such as, Dead Note, Aberant, Adroit, My turn awaits rocked the stage on fire.
Speaking to NNN, Dominic, the front man of Adroit, one of the oldest bands in Meghalaya said that there is no life without music.
"Music brings people together and the whole purpose of organizing and celebrating World Music Day is to maintain peace and harmony," Dominic said.
When asked Dominic that there are countless budding talents which the region has but are yet to be tapped, he said government should look into these matters.
"For young talents government should take an active role to promote Music in the region" Dominic said adding, "The state has immense potential and one should also come forward to showcase their talent, through such programs" .
He also asserted that there are many musicians in the region who are dependent on music for their daily bread and butter.
"Government should provide certain schemes for these artistes in order to promote them," Dominic said.
Regional Director of ICCR, Munish Singh said such events will broadcast many talents of the state.
"The people of the state have so much love and carve for music, which itself shows the importance of the subject," Singh said adding "Such events will bring out many talents of the state and give them a platform to showcase their talents" .
The first half of the morning the event witnessed a rich folk music competition in solo and groups followed by the performances by various bands of Shillong including Aroha choir and fusion performances by local artistes.
