Imphal, June 21 2013 :
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister K Govindas has announced that the Department would begin conducting health camps for animals soon.
He was speaking in the State Legislative Assembly during the discussion for demand grant of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary today.
Three MLAs raised cut motions citing failure of the Department to manage dairy farming, check influx of poultries and other animals from other states and provide employment to youths.
After hearing the comments and suggestions of the MLAs, Minister Govindas said that 20 motor bikes would be procured by the Department to provide veterinary health services in every nook and corner of the State.
The Department could not perform well due to inadequate infrastructures and manpower, he asserted.
The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department has been involved in promoting local and indigenous breeds in the State.
The Department in association with Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association has taken up a project for rearing and promoting Manipuri ponies.
A large scheme has also been taken up at Heingang Marjing Hills, Govindas added.
AH&V Minister further said that animal breeding centres would be set up at Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur at a cost of Rs.16.3 crores.
The Department would provide employment to youths and also monitor butchers to ensure safety and standards of food, he assured.
Raising the cut motion, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi stated that AH&V is an important department but it has failed to do its responsibility.
There is no authority to check safety and standards of the meat sold by butchers across the State.
Later, the demand of Rs.81,61,61,000 crores for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary was passed by the State Assembly.
