Senapati, June 21 2013 :
In an attempt to permanently solve water scarcity problem in the densely populated Senapati district headquarters, MLA Dr V Alexander Pao along with State PHED officials spearheaded the drilling of new water hand pumps in different locations of the Senapati DHQ.
Inspecting the water drilling works, the MLA has lauded the efforts of the PHED officials and workers and appealed the concerned village leaders to extend maximum help to the ongoing works.
The water drilling works will be implemented in five different areas/colonies of the DHQ.
The District Administration has earlier repaired some old hand pumps against the backdrop of seemingly dry spell.
Residents of Senapati DHQ have faced severe water scarcity down many years.
Coupled with failed NLCPR funded water supply schemes in the District, drying up of Senapati river and poor water pump sources in the area, the issue remained a concern for the general public.
Notably, the UNC during their recent last leg of Senapati Political tour to expose the tall claims of State Governments of implementing projects in the Hill Districts of Manipur has also projected the so called mega drinking water project as total failure where the full amount sanctioned has been withdrawn and confirmed completed.
Despite incomplete construction works and subsequent protest by apex bodies like NPO and SDSA against the proposed inaugural programme, the then PHED Minister TN Haokip had inaugurated it on November 15, 2008 at Taphou Naga Village.
Regrettably, not even a drop of water flows through the iron pipes lying scattered/unattended or any potable water flows in/out of the huge water tanks till date.
