Drive of disconnecting power supply lines to the default consumers by the staffs of the state electricity department in Imphal areas was in progress today.
The drive of disconnecting power lines to consumers has been launching due to non-clearance of power consumption charges which caused serve reduction in the revenue collection of the department even though the rate of power consumption increasing.
In the drive in the places covered by the Division-I of the department, from Keishampat to Khagempali Panthak, the department has collected Rs 7 crore, officials involved in the drive observed.
SO, P Kerani however maintained that the total bill amount due with the consumers within the division-I was around Rs 35 crores.
The drive was commenced after notices were served to the consumers giving them 20 days period to clear the due amounts.
The drive commenced from November 4 last, he added.
Those consumers who clear the due amount fully or in installments were not disconnected during the drive.
They have disconnected power line to about 82 consumers, he added.
The department was compelled to launch the drive as the over due amount increasing day by day.
The officials also asked government departments to clear due amount upto 50 percent to avoid cutting power supply lines.
