Imphal, November 20 2009: The prevailing situation of insecurity and anarchy being witnessed in Manipur demands unification and unity among student bodies, civil organisations and the general public, stated MPP Legislature Wing leader O Joy.

Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a newly constructed community hall at Kakwa Asem Leikai today, the fire brand Opposition MLA observed that the collective wish of the people can be realised if people struggle with unity rather than putting up hurdles against one another.

Noting about some people saying that opposition MLAs have failed to discharge their duties in the context of the prevailing situation, Joy asserted that people did not have much knowledge about what the MLAs should do in Assembly.

Assembly is a place for enacting laws and debating public issues/matters.

It is not a place for cultivation, Joy said.

While majority of the MLAs have taken side with the ruling bench, the remaining few have been rendered powerless in most cases.

He claimed that MPP MLAs performed 90 percent of the Assembly duties while the remaining 10 percent is shared by the other parties.

MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang went on to claim that their five MLAs have been performing their assigned duties in the Assembly on different issues of the State.

The ruling MLAs were drowsing in the Assembly hall.

Some other MLAs were even boozing and playing cards inside Assembly complex, Dr Nimaichand said in a scathing attack against ruling MLAs.

MLA RK Anand exhorted the people to study which MLAs spoke in the interest of the people and on different issues that broke out in the State from time to time.

He admitted that MLAs being representatives of the people should act in tune to their pulse.

Observing that there is little initiative on the part of MLAs to deliberate on the existing issue collectively, RK Anand expressed his desire for the Government to solve the issue through dialogue.

It would not be correct to let the movement go on for a prolonged period, he opined.

Any division between civil organisations and student bodies would prove detrimental in securing the public demand.

The inability to bring the Government in the line desired by the people is a manifestation of the people's weakness and lack of unity among the public, Anand asserted.
