Imphal, November 12 2008:
ARMY HAS planned a three day gala celebration for the children of Thanlon and Tipaimukh Sub-division which began yesterday evening with the arrival of young ones from the surrounding villages, a PIB (Defence Wing) statement informed.
It further stated that12 MADRAS, under the aegis of Red Shield Division, has taken upon itself to do their bit for the young ones.
Col ASN Rao, the CO, inaugurated the gala event by formally opening the three day ceremony today, the first event being the athletics competition.
Youth Clubs from 12 villages will take part in the volley ball tournament.
A quiz competition was also held in the evening.
Creative skills would be displayed tomorrow in drawing painting and fancy dress competitions.
On November 14 the Children's Day, declamation competition, followed by cultural programmes will be presented by the youth clubs.
The PIB (Defence Wing) statement further informed that arrangement for transportation of the children from far flung villages including lodging and boarding are being taken care of by the Army.
The young enthusiasts, who hardly get an opportunity to demonstrate and hone their skills will also see a movie on the larger screen probably for the first time.
People of the two sub divisions are extremely happy and proud to showcase their village to the visitors, the statement added.
