Writer Shribiren no more

Imphal, December 29 2011:
Renowned writer and Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Shribiren passed away at his residence at Uripok Achom Leikai early this morning.
Shribiren was conferred the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for his novel "Mapal Naidrabasida Eigidamak".
Shribiren had also written a number of short stories and poems and edited "Wakhal", a journal produced by Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti.
He was also awarded Jamini Sunder Guha Gold Medal for his novel "Mapal Naidrabasida Eigidamak" .
Sribiren was the founder member Secretary of Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Joint Secretary of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, General Council of Manipur State Kala Akademi and its Executive Board member.
He was awarded the Kabi Ratna Upadhi by the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in 2005 .
The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Manipuri Literary Society, Patriotic Writers Forum and Cultural Forum Manipur have condoled the sad demise of Shribiren.
