Cops unearth arms, explosives

Imphal, April 21 2011:
One pistol loaded with two live rounds and a hand grenade, concealed by undergrounds near a football ground at Leikinthabi village in Imphal east district, were unearthed by security forces in a follow up operation to the arrest of a PREPAK cadre.
A police source said on Thursday that Konsam Anil Singh @ Laxman @ Ngamba (42) of Khoyathong Polem Leikai, Imphal was apprehended by a combined team of police commandos and 43 Assam Rifles from Kanglatongbi Bazar, four and a half kilometres north of Sekmai PS on Monday.
The team, conducting a frisking and checking operation in the area, apprehended the PREPAK cadre and during interrogation he revealed the concealment of the arms and ammunition at Leikinthabi.
He was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West after booking him under section 17/20 UA(P) Amendment Act, 25 (1-C) of Arms Act and 5 Explosive Substances Act, and remanded into police custody.
On the other hand, in the continued monetary demands to individuals by UGs, a failed bomb attack was carried out at the house of Phuritshabam Jiten, Up-Pradhan of Sekmaijin Gram Panchayat in Thoubal district.
Police safely defused the bomb today morning.
