Jiribam, July 11 2014 :
Considering the hardships faced by the people due to imposition of prolonged blockade along the National Highway and the steps taken up by the Government in response to their demands, the four agitating student bodies of Jiribam have announced relaxation of blockade along Jiribam-Imphal stretch of the National Highway-37 for 7 days with effect from midnight of July 11 to midnight of July 17 .
However, the ban on government offices will continue, said the leaders of the four student organisations at a press meet held at the office of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam today.
Meanwhile, leaders of AMSU District Committee, Jiribam; MSF, Special Branch; DESAM Local Council and KSA Jiribam Unit stated that transporters who ferried Betel leaves and nuts on the highways in defiance of the blockade under cover of security forces have been banned indefinitely from the business.
The student leaders also warned them of untoward consequences, if they continue to defy the student bodies.
It may be recalled that the student bodies have been resorting to total bandh along Jiri-Imphal highway demanding posting of requisite teachers and provision of infrastructure in schools of Jiribam.
