Naib Subedar Jitu Rai of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) has etched his name in the history of Indian shooting by winning three medals (one Gold and Two Silver) in two successive World Cups namely ISSF World Cup held from 04 Jun to 13 June 2014 at Munich, Germany and ISSF World Cup from 13 Jun to 21 Jun 2014 at Maribor, Slovenia.
These medals were won in 10m Air Pistol and 50m Free Pistol events.
He is now the World No.1 in the ISSF rankings.
Naib Subedar Jitu Rai belongs to 5/11 Gorkha Rifles and one of India's key prospects for a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in July 2014, the Asian Games in Incheon in September 2014 and has his eyes set on the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
To acknowledge the outstanding achievements of the elite Army shooter, a felicitation ceremony was conducted at Army Headquarters on 11 Jul 2014, where a cheque of Rs 3.5 lac was presented to him by the VCOAS, Lt Gen Dalbir Singh, according to a statement issued by Lt Col Ajay Kumar Sharma, PRO (Defence), Imphal.
