Imphal, July 11 2014 :
Construct-ion work of the 400 KV (double circuit) power line from Silchar to Imphal (Yurembam) has been delayed by many disrup-tive activities.
Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI) which is constructing the power line at first set the target of completing the project by May last year, informed an official source.
On account of frequent bandhs/blockades and volatile law and order situation, the contractors could not execute the works allotted to them ex-peditiously.
Nonetheless, some new contractors have been roped in in addition to the existing contractors.
The project may be completed by November this year as per the target set anew.
Construction of the 400 KV double circuit power line started in 2011 with a view to generate 1000 MG per hour (500 MG on each circuit) .
Once the 400 KV power line is constructed, the State's share from power projects based outside the State which is estimated to be around 90 MW would be drawn to the State.
Out of the 70 MW expected by the State, around 42 MW would come from Paltana power project and another 47 MW from Bongaigaon.
One major factor for the State's power woes is the inability to draw the State's full share from power projects based outside the State.
This problem can be addressed substantially once the 400 KV power line is fully constructed, added the source.
