Imphal, May 06 2011:
Protesting unlicensed vendors have called a 48-hour general strike, which would be effective from 4 am of Saturday as part of their ongoing protest against the government.
The general strike was called after a meeting of the 'JAC Against The Decision of State Cabinet for Street Vendors' was held today when they could not get any positive response from the government's side even as they were protesting against the cabinet decision since April 27 .
A statement of the JAC said that the commitment given to them by the government to provide them sheds has instead been converted into a parking lot, and that they had been cheated by the government.
After completion of the three multi-storey markets, the IMC collected ' 10 each from the unlicensed vendors assuring them they would be given sheds in the vacated market place.
