Make education a 'disturbance free zone': DESAM

DESAM organised a mass rally cum public meeting at Kakching in Thoubal district on Friday.
It was participated by around 7,000 students.
The programme was held to continue its demand for making education a disturbance free zone.
The rally took off from Kakching Higher Secondary School, and gathered at Jnnurm Community Hall, Kakching Sumak Leikai where a public meeting was held.
Th Charanjit (MCS), SDO, Kakching flagged off the rally during which the students carried banners with slogans like "Make education a free zone', 'Let's keep education first', 'Exempt education related persons from any bandh, blockade", 'Stop pressurising officials of educational institutes and department by armed individuals or groups', 'Avoid corruption in all education related matters', 'Education should be treated as an essential service, ' 'We demand state education policy, 'Education budget should be increased, etc.

The public meeting was also attended by Mayengbam Manilal, ZEO, Zone III, Thoubal Block: M Angamba Meitei, President DESAM H/Qs; Th.Charanjit, (MCS), SDO, Kakching; Y Shamu ZEO, Zone III, Kakching Block; M Memcha CSPO, ICDS Project, Kakching Block; Sh Nimai, President, AMESTA, Kakching Block; Samadram Shamu, President, AMESTA, Thoubal Block; Ksh Chaoba, Chairman, CBSE Monitoring Cell, Manipur; Kh Menjor, President, Thoubal District Private School Development Council and Tourangbam Anita, CDPO, ICDS Project, Thoubal Block were the presidium members of the public meeting.
Addressing the gatherings, DESAM President M Angamba appealed to all to stop threatening the educational environment in the State.
He appealed to all not to cause disturbance to educational institutions by serving monetary demands and imposing bandhs and blockades.
Pointing out the recent incident of all Catholic institutions being banned by an armed outfit, Angamba urged all not to consider education centres as money earning hub.
Both the State and non-State actors should refrain from using students as tools to achieve their political aspirations, he said.
There is lack of transparency in implementation of Central sponsored schemes, transfer of teachers and other activities, he said and added that even though the present Government has been shouting for the last many years to improve the education sector in the State, nothing worthwhile has been witnessed so far.
In this 21st century, education is the key to modernization and development, and knowledge industry is far more valued than any other industry, Angamba said while adding that the State Government should give more attention to the education sector.
