Imphal, February 03 2019:
Veteran politician Okram Joy has strongly condemned the lack of any kind of clarification regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by President RamNath Kovind during his address at the Parliament Central Hall on January 31, adding that such attitude is deeply troubling and hurtful to the people of the entire North East region.
Speaking to media persons at his residence at Kakwa yesterday, the seasoned politician claimed that the address given by the President: of the country during the joint session was provided in written form by the Central Government and approved by the Union Cabinet and is a statement which reeks of Government policy.
Pointing out that the North East States, including Manipur, have always faced the threat of being flooded by thousands of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries, Joy said that the CAB was rejected by the Nagaland Cabinet and even the Chief Minister's of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have openly opposed the Bill.
When various CSOs, student bodies and people of the entire North East are rising in defiance and opposition to the Bill and demanding its immediate withdrawal, why is the Chief Minister N Biren Singh led State Government acting liked a coward, afraid to raise any voice, he asked.
Joy continued that it is indeed a huge disappointment that not a single word was included in the statement by the President of the country regarding the uproar in the NE region against the Bill.
Demanding immediate withdrawal of the CAB, the seasoned politician condemned the statement allegedly made by BJP National general secretary Ram Madhav that the Bill would be passed.
Joy then said that the CAB is anti-people and accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government of being anti-North East.
Demanding immediate withdrawal of the Bill which is allegedly designed to act as a vote bank, Joy said that he fully supports the movement of the people and appealed to others to do so as well.
