Imphal, June 02 2021:
While pointing out that the second wave of COVID-19 has severely affected every section of society in all aspects, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded separate treatment centre for proper care of elderly COVID-19 patients and a particular place for lodging complaint against private hospitals with regard to treatment charges.
According to a statement issued by AMSU information & publicity secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan, the state government is giving special attention and taking up various policies to improve health sector so as to save precious lives of the people from the pandemic.
The government is also carrying out mass testing and utilising maximum manpower for the programme so that positive patients could be given early treatment as part of the policy to save people from the pandemic, the AMSU said and demanded a separate treatment centre for elderly patients who are more vulnerable to the infectious disease.
While lauding the government for issuing a notice on fixing the rate for treatment in private hospitals, the AMSU statement said that there had been numerous incidents of private hospitals charging more than government approved rate, which often led to unwanted incidents.
In view of this, the state government should open a centre where people could lodge their complaint against private hospitals particularly on treatment charges.
Expressing concern over incidents which are taking place regarding distribution of rice amidst the pandemic, the AMSU also urged government to look into the matter and make the public to understand the issue thoroughly.
