Imphal, August 24 2012:
Though Nongmeibung Primary School, Imphal East district is now left without a single student, all its teachers have been attending and leaving the school at the same time as per the attendance record.
Some teachers have appended their signatures on attendance register for tomorrow too.
This was discovered during a survey conducted by Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) today as a part of their Lairik Ningthina Tamshi campaign.
Though the school has no students, teachers have been enjoying uninterrupted salaries for the last two months, said MSF joint secretary Lucky Konsam.
There are seven teachers and one matron in the school which has no student.
As per the attendance register, all the teachers reached the school at 9.15 am and left at 1.30 pm.
Some teachers even appended their signatures on the attendance register for tomorrow in advance.
But when the MSF team visited the school today, only four teachers were present.
Each of the teachers has a key of the teachers' common room.
Whoever comes to the school would open the room and sign on the attendance register not only for himself/herself but also for other absentee teachers, he alleged.
Highlighting the need of teachers in schools which have healthy strength of students, Lucky Konsam said that posting of teachers should be rationalised.
In Bheiradon Maxwell Hindi High School, Thangal Bazar, there are 171 students between classes VI to X but the school has no library facility nor separate toilet block for girl students as per the survey report of MSF.
The class room of class X is also used computer laboratory.
When there is computer class for Class IX, students of class IX and X interchange their class rooms.
Langdum High School has 11 teachers against 160 students but it does not have library facility nor proper toilet.
