Imphal, August 24 2012: BJP National President Nitin Gadkari has blamed Congress party for the present unrest in Assam.

Addressing a press conference at the office of BJP, Manipur Pradesh at Nityaipat here today, Nitin Gadkari categorically stated that the incidents of violence in Assam that began in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bhuri districts of Assam and later spread to other areas were basically clashes between Indians and Foreigners and these reprehensible clashes which have so far claimed nearly 80 lives and displaced nearly 5 lakh people are the result of Congress Party's vote bank politics in Assam.

"Unless and until Congress desists from indulging in vote bank politics in Assam, the security of the state and the region will remain in danger", he charged, adding that the subsequent violent protests in Mumbai on August 12, too, appear to have been organised as a part of the Congress party's hidden agenda to communalize the Assam violence.

Observing that BJP has been protesting against infiltrations from across the border, Gadkari said, "We are for deportation of all the infiltrators and sealing of the border to prevent further infiltrations.

I once again reiterate that the vote bank politics indulged in by the Congress is squarely responsible for the large scale infiltration of Bangladeshis and the resultant dispalcement of Indian citizens in parts of the Norh east.

People are aware of the fact that it was the Congress which introduced the IMDT Act and provided overt protection to the infiltrators and the same Party later tried to undo the impact of the Supreme Court ruling declaring the IMDT Act as null and void.

Congress led UPA is responsible for this situation in no uncertain terms" .

Gadkari informed that all the BJP State Presidents in different parts of the country have been informed to look after the people of North east in their respective states.

The BJP had honestly safeguarded the North Eastern people and have also requested them not to leave Karnataka.

However, the Union government has been arranging special trains for the North East people and evacuating them on security grounds.

He also appealed to all the North East people to inform the BJP units whenever they feel that incidence of violence are likely to erupt.

The BJP will act as their local guardian and see that no harm is done to them.

The BJP President also assured that more emphasis will be given to the development of North East and employments will be generated if the BJP gains majority in the 2014 elections.
