Manipur University has given affiliation to Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS) Group, which is the host institute of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hengbung, for the establishment of College of Horticulture, College of Biotechnology and College of Community Science (Home Science) at Hengbung.
The three colleges, which will be the first technical and professional colleges in the hill districts, will begin session from this coming July.
The said colleges which will be established with the aim of providing technical knowledge, skills and entrepreneurship development to the youths/students of the North East region as well as other countries like Myanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh, will have a total capacity of 85 students.
Out of the said total number of students, 30 will be for College of Horticulture, 25 for College of Biotechnology and 30 will be for College of Community Science.
The existence of various projects concerning ethno-medical research centre, orchid research and development centre, local botanical gardens etc which are being taken up under the aegis of the Central Government, is another main reason for the establishment of the said three colleges.
